Take it responsibly

With the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation let’s see how we can lower anxiety levels and be prepared if it will enter your home or home of your friends, families and neighbours. I hope it will stay away and you remain healthy and happy. According to my own observation, here in Ontario we had most critical situation in December-January when many people got sick with unusual symptoms – dry chesty cough, headaches, digestive disturbances. At the moment, at least in my practice, I have very few patients with cold/flu symptoms but the season should be at the full swing.

First of all, it is very important to calm down not to panic because stress is taking your energy and you need it to stay healthy. Pay attention to your diet and healthy daily routine: eat healthy rich in nutrients home cooked meals, drink plenty of fluids (warm/hot herbal teas are preferable), give yourself time for good rest, exercise, walks in fresh air and sun. Keep a positive outlook. Those are the first things you should think of.

Check your medicine box for following:

Vitamin C – start today with 1000mg a day, double the dose in case of signs of viral infection.

Vitamin D – it is time of the year when most of us become deficient in it. Take 1000 to 4000IU a day for the next month.

St.Francis Deep Immune tincture or capsules.

Homeopathic remedies:

Aconitum Napelis, Antimonium Tartaricum, Arsenicum Album, Belladonna, Bryonia, Carbo Vegetabilis, Camphora, Gelsemium, Kali Bichromicum, Lachesis, Lycopodium Clavatum, Mercurius Solubius, Nux Vomica, Phosphorus, Spongia Tosta. Buy it in 30C or 200 potency.

Mentioned above remedies you can buy or order at Healthy Planet, Nature’s Imporium, Ambrosia, Thompson’s Homeopathics, Riverdale Homeopathic Resourses, Goodness Me, and other health food stores in Ontario or order directly from Helios Homeopathic Pharmacy.

Contact your homeopath for a proper guidance which remedy and how to take.

Some homeopath recommend to take some remedies as preventative. I would recommend to start the treatment with homeopathic medicines only if symptoms will arise, otherwise do other preventive measures.

Make sure you have at home unpasteurized honey, lemons, ginger, garlic, onions, cabbage, home cooked chicken broth, cayenne pepper and strong alcohol (vodka, whisky, brandy).  Eat light, rich in vegetables meals. Healthy fats – extra virgin olive oil, butter and animal fats help to bring down inflammation. Remember about home remedies that can help you to carry through illness. One of the tested home remedies: 4 garlic cloves and juice of one lemon. Crush garlic, mix with lemon juice, store it in a dark place for 3 days. Then strain it and keep it in the fridge. On empty stomach, drink 1 cup of warm water with 1 tbsp of lemon-garlic mix, 1 to 3 times a day during the time of epidemic.

Do not take Aspirin, Tylenol, Advil at the first signs of viral infection. Aspirin affects vascular permeability which will not be favourable as virus affect alveoli. Anti-inflammatory medications may worsen your symptoms and affect healing. Let your body organize itself to defence the invader, your body knows how to support you in the right way.

If you can not reach your homeopath it is better contact any other homeopath who is available, if not, here is a short guidance on which remedies would work the best for you. The following remedies were most useful during latest flu outbreak:

Bryonia Alba – looks like you will most likely will need this remedy. It is helpful when symptoms develop slowly with more likely low grade fevers, dryness of mucous membranes, dry painful cough, headache which is worse with any slight movement and during the cough, body aches with aggravated with the slight motion and desire to stay still and undisturbed.

Arsenicum Album a person who needs this remedy during viral infection feels chilly and exhausted, along with an anxious restlessness. The person may be thirsty, but often only takes small sips. If the digestive system is involved, nausea with burning pain, or vomiting and acrid diarrhea may occur.

Aconitum Naples – called for at the onset and during the first stage. Chill, followed by high fever, flushed face, thirst, restlessness, anxiety, general pains, hacking cough, with rusty expectoration.

Belladonna – dry, paroxysmal cough, nightly aggravation, spasmodic in character and causing flushing of the face and headache, with little or no expectoration.

Camphor – first stages of a viral infection with chilliness and sneezing. Very sensitive to cold and to touch. Great sensitiveness to cold and cold air, which worse pains, takes cold easily. Icy coldness of the whole body, sudden sinking of strength, pulse small and weak.

Gelsemium – intense weakness with desire to lay down and close eyes which feel heavy. Chills up and down the spine.

Lycopodium – cough, with grey, salty expectoration. Dyspnoea, with sense of constriction, shortness of breath and intense weakness. Great difficulty to breathe, with fan – like motion of the alae nasi. Aggravation from four to eight each afternoon.

Phosphorus – hard, dry, hacking cough from tickling in the throat pit, with scanty expectoration of frothy mucus or mucus tinged with blood. Respiration is short and difficult from tightness and oppression across chest. Larynx is involved with hoarseness or aphonia. Speaking causes a sense of soreness in the larynx and trachea. Cough grows worse toward evening with increase of hoarseness. Thirst for icy-cold water which brings some relief.

Spongia Tosta – hollow, barking, croupy cough with burning rawness and pain in the larynx and trachea. The hoarseness and croupy character of the voice and cough, showing laryngeal involvement, is the great indication for Spongia, especially with the night attack or aggravation.
