Insect Bites: Natural and Homeopathic Remedies

Black flies, mosquitos, bees, wasps, horse flies, tics, spiders… They are everywhere. When they bite it can hurt a lot and bring lots of complications, especially for people sensitive to insect bites. Reactions can be from mild to severe. I found that natural remedies are very effective and help to diminish symptoms in a very short time. So what to have in your medicine box and be ready to deal with unwanted reaction to insect bites? My favourites are tea tree oil, propolis tincture, baking soda, raw honey, vinegar. You can also successfully use homeopathic remedies to heal – Apis Mellifica, Ledum Palustre, Arnica Montana, Calendula, Echinacea, Staphysagria in 30Ch or 200CH potencies.

Black fly bites. Symptoms can be from pain and swelling around bitten area to severe allergic reactions and signs of infection, reactions to black fly bites that collectively are known as “black fly fever” include headache, nausea, fever, and swollen lymph nodes in the neck. See your doctor if you develop strong reaction to the bite. First things you can do to manage the wound – disinfect the area with tea tree oil or Kinder to Skin 20% tea tree oil alcohol solution or propolis tincture, apply propolis every couple of hours after. I found propolis is the best solution to black fly bites. If you will see signs of infection you can use calendula or echinacea tincture topically. Homeopathic remedies that can be helpful: Apis Mellifica 30CH if the area is red, hot swollen or you see the signs of allergic reaction. Ledum 30CH if the area is cold to touch and bluish in appearance. Calendula 30CH and Echinacea 30CH if you see signs of infection.

Bee/Wasp Stings. Use raw honey on the sting area. You will not be disappointed with the results. Baking soda or sea salt paste, vinegar can also bring the relief. Homeopathic remedy Apis Mellifica 30CH  will be very helpful as it is made of bee sting poison. It also can help tremendously if you are allergic to bee stings. Indication for Apis would be the appearance of the area – swollen, hot to touch, red. Again, Ledum will be helpful if area is bluish in appearance and cold to touch. Arnica tincture will bring instant relief when applied to the sting area. Make sure that there is no bee sting left. See your doctor if you are unsure. Carry EpiPen if you know you are allergic to bee stings.

Mosquitos Bites. I find Kinder to Skin 20% tea tree oils alcohol solution is very effective to diminish itchiness and redness. Vinegar, baking soda, propolis are great too. Staphysagria 30CH will helpful to address long lasting swelling and itching after mosquito bites. Remember Apis and Ledum and indications for their use.

Tick Bites. Seek the professional help when possible to remove the insect and get advise on the treatment. If you for some reasons can not get to your doctor, remove the tick and treat the bitten area as any wound first – clean it with water and soap, apply what you have at hand to disinfect the area – strong alcohol, calendula, arnica, propolis tinctures. Continue to apply it frequently throughout the day. Ledum 30CH considered a specific remedy for tick bites that will prevent possible complications. Arnica, Calendula, Echinacea in 30CH potencies will help to prevent infections.
